Software Engineer, Identity
Tailscale is building the new Internet by delivering software that makes it easy to securely interconnect people and their devices, no matter where they are. From hobbyists to multinational corporations, teams of every size use Tailscale each day to protect their networks, share access to internal tools, and more. We're building a future for the Internet that's easy, sensible, and safe, like it used to be. Founded in 2019 and fully distributed, we're backed by Accel, CRV, Insight, Heavybit, and Uncork Capital.
Job Description
We’re seeking a skilled and diligent full-time Software Engineer to join our growing team. You will work as part of the engineering team to:
- Develop the Tailscale product, contributing to client code and related services.
- Bring a special focus to developing features related to user identity, enabling secure access, authentication, and sharing.
Because we’re an early-stage and fully remote company, we’re looking for a strongly motivated individual who can help move the product forward. The ability to think on your feet, collaborate with highly technical teams, and comfort working asynchronously are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
With the team, you’ll succeed with these sorts of goals
- Work as part of a team of engineers and designers to add features in the Tailscale service
- Take a holistic view of the product, from customer needs to client applications to the admin console
- Develop features that support a broad range of sign-on options, such as SSO, OAuth2, SAML, and WebAuthn
- Develop and maintain features to synchronize users and groups from IdPs
What We Are Looking For
- Experience with authentication/authorization protocols and frameworks such as OAuth2, OIDC, SSO, SAML, and vendors such as Okta/Auth0
- Familiarity with networks (IP addressing, routing, etc.)
- Ability to give and process constructive feedback, as well as work independently
- Flexibility to adjust to the dynamic nature of a startup
- Most of the non-front-end portions of the system are developed in the Go programming language. Experience with Go is a plus.
As a company, we strive to maintain fair and equitable compensation practices within our team across all roles and all levels. Tailscale's compensation package includes base salary, equity, and comprehensive benefits. The salary range displayed on each job posting represents the target range for a new hire's base salary. Individual offers may vary based on experience and skill set.
US Pay Ranges
- $163,000 - $204,000 USD
Frequently cited statistics show that people who identify with historically marginalized groups are likely to apply to jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. We encourage you to help us break that statistic!
What We Offer
- An inclusive, flexible environment where you can be your authentic self. We recognize the impact of diverse voices and backgrounds on the growth of our people, product, and company. And that flexibility in how and when you work empowers our team to integrate work and life.
- A competitive total compensation package. This includes a base salary, an equity incentive plan and variable commission (for quota-based roles).
- Comprehensive group benefits with no waiting period. Take advantage of coverage for health, vision, dental, and more for you and your family!
- All-remote with the opportunity to work from anywhere—enjoy a change of scenery wherever you can get wifi, participate in virtual and in-person social events, and leverage our corporate co-working program to visit WeWork (or other similar spaces near you).
- Connect with other Tailscalars IRL. Attend our annual company retreat, participate in team/department off-sites, or use your individual travel budget to meet up with team members in Canada, the US, or the UK.
- Support for your personal and professional development. Grow your career thoughtfully with $1500 USD annually for professional development, or take advantage of mentorship, coaching, and internal promotion opportunities.
- Paid time off and a healthy work-life integration. Our flexible, paid time off program supports you for any situation life throws your way, whether moving homes or travelling the world!
- A build-your-own home office setup. You choose your own company-owned laptop (Mac or PC), receive a monthly home internet reimbursement, and $1000 USD to customize your workstation to make it your own.

- Mentorship: Strong experience mentoring colleagues and providing training/documentation to improve team performance and knowledge sharing.
- Development of internal tools: to streamline support diagnostics, including Grafana dashboards
- Communication: Strong written and verbal skills to explain technical concepts clearly.

What will make us extra happy?
- Edge computing experience: Working knowledge of Docker, libSQL, and runtime environments for edge functions (Deno).
- WAF knowledge: Familiarity with Web Application Firewalls (WAF) and experience configuring and troubleshooting security-related issues.
- Storage knowledge: Understanding of storage technologies and their integration with CDN services (e.g., object storage, file systems, storage performance optimization).

About our Mobile Engineering Practice
Our mobile engineers have a variety of different backgrounds
There are ~40 iOS engineers at Monzo and we’re looking for more to join the team. We have several non-graduates; only some of us studied Computer Science; some of us have worked in huge companies; some have only ever worked in startups; others are former consultants. As long as you enjoy learning new things, we’d love to talk to you.
Monzo works in small, interdisciplinary teams
We have around 400 engineers out of roughly 4,500 people in total - and we have big ambitions. There are many interesting challenges ahead, and we're happy for people to move between teams or to specialise, whatever you prefer. As an engineer here you'd be able to work directly with anyone across the company, and we run regular knowledge-sharing sessions so you’ll learn heaps about everything from how banks work to effective communication.
We contribute to open source software as much as possible. Our blog is a good place to learn even more about what we do!
Your day-to-day
We’re searching for a product-aware Senior iOS engineers with a passion for great UI and UX to join our team. You understand the need for tested, resilient code balanced against the need to move fast and iterate.
You’ll be working on a product that is a part of day to day life for more than 11 million people already, and your work here will shape the way that people interact with their finances.
This role is all about collaborating across disciplines to test hypotheses and make a difference to customers. As an iOS engineer at Monzo you'll work in a small, autonomous product squad alongside Android Engineers, Backend Engineers, User Researchers, Product Designers, Product Managers, QA Testers, Data Scientists and Business Analysts.
Your mission will depend on the squad, but currently mobile engineers are working on the core personal banking experience, paid products, lending products, business banking and internal operations. We also have a small squad dedicated to enabling other mobile engineers to move faster.
You and your team will be responsible for an overall company goal, rather than building a specific feature - you'll have the opportunity to have impact on both what we build, and how we build it.
Every week we meet as a discipline to discuss tools, techniques, problems we're encountering across the company and work together to improve our codebase and processes.
You'll report to an engineering manager who will meet with you every 2 weeks 1:1, their mission is to help you develop and grow as an engineer.
Our app is 100% Swift and our latest features are built in SwiftUI and using elements of The Composable Architecture. Historically we built using a Model, View, View-Model architecture (MVVM). We use Coordinators to ensure we can re-use flows wherever possible, and avoid tightly coupling one screen to another. We make heavy use of protocols and extensions throughout our app.
Our networking stack is built upon Alamofire, using a generic interface to easily de-serialise objects of a certain type, and we mirror our backend micro-service architecture by building individual services to house our API logic. We log liberally to get alerted when they’re triggered in Sentry which we also use to monitor crashes.
Our testing stack comprises of unit tests for business logic, stubbed API tests for pseudo-integration tests, snapshot tests for UI, and XCUITest for testing user input and sequencing.
We've published some talks and blog posts about how we work:
- Working with backend services on iOS
- Pushing Protocols to their Limits
- Our mobile release process: An illustrated story
- What we’ve learnt building a design system in SwiftUI
Our open roles are for Senior iOS Engineers at present.
- You'll care about the impact your work has on our customers, and optimise for impact rather than the number of lines of code you output
- You are excited about and have experience in programming in Swift
- You’ve shipped and iterated on at least one app in the App Store
- You have a product mindset: you care about customer outcomes and you want to make data-informed decisions
- You love turning excellent design into beautiful products
- You’re comfortable working in a team that deals with ambiguity
- You have an understanding of the principles of computer science
The Interview Process:
Our interview process involves three main stages:
- Initial Call
- Take home task or pair coding exercise
- Final interview including a system design and a behavioural interview
Our average process takes around 2-3 weeks but we will always work around your availability.
You will have the chance to speak to our recruitment team at various points during your process but if you
do have any specific questions or want to talk through reasonable adjustments ahead of or during application please us at any point on tech-hiring@monzo.com
Please also use that email to let us know if there's anything we can do to make your application process easier for you, because of disability, neurodiversity or any other personal reason
One of our engineers has written a detailed blog on their experience through this process, for extra details, hints and tips please see here.

The Role
We’re looking for a Brand & Product Marketing Lead who’s equal parts strategist, storyteller, and operator. This isn’t just another marketing role—it’s a chance to shape how our cutting-edge, tech-forward product is perceived and embraced by parents worldwide. Your work will directly impact how we revolutionize education, building trust, loyalty, and excitement around everything we create.
We’re looking for someone bold. Someone who can take a big vision and turn it into clear, actionable, and high-impact marketing. You’ll craft campaigns that inspire, lead product launches that resonate with precision, and create customer experiences that build lasting loyalty.
At other companies, this role would be equivalent to a senior position. At Outschool we have decided to take an unconventional approach to titling that aligns with our values and is focused on impact above status. You can learn more about our titling philosophy here.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Write the playbook: Develop and execute brand and product marketing strategies that make us impossible to ignore. From compelling campaigns that connect emotionally to growth-driven launches, you’ll define how we show up.
- Lead unforgettable product launches: Partner with product and growth teams to deliver go-to-market strategies that are creative, precise, and highly effective.
- Understand our audience and the market: Be the ultimate advocate for our customers. Leverage insights, research, and competitive analysis to position our products as must-haves, not just nice-to-haves.
- Collaborate and inspire across teams: Work closely with product, design, growth, and customer success teams to create a cohesive, on-brand customer journey from awareness to retention.
- Measure, learn, evolve: Define clear goals, analyze results, and iterate. You’ll experiment, learn from data, and continuously improve until great becomes exceptional.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- You’ve worked in consumer businesses that are tech-forward, data-driven, and customer-obsessed.
- You’re a natural storyteller—whether it’s a brand campaign or a product launch, you know how to create messaging that sticks, inspires, and drives action.
- You thrive at the intersection of strategy and execution. Big ideas are important, but you know how to make them happen.
- You’re a player coach and can be hands on for our startup environment
- Collaboration is second nature to you. You work seamlessly across teams as a partner, problem-solver, and someone who makes processes smoother, not harder.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
- Experience with subscription businesses or loyalty programs where customer retention was as critical as acquisition.
- Startup experience—you know how to thrive in fast-moving, ever-evolving environments where change is constant, and ambiguity motivates you rather than slowing you down
- You’ve managed in-house teams and partnered with agencies
