- Enable the Team: Develop scripts, documentation, and automation that empower developers to work more effectively and safely with the database.
About you
- 4+ years of experience in data engineering or architecture, with a significant, up-to-date focus on MongoDB.
- Proven, hands-on experience designing and implementing MongoDB sharding in a production environment. You should be able to discuss the trade-offs of different shard keys you've used in the past.
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Typescript/Node.js preferred), with demonstrated experience making changes to an application codebase.
- A strong collaborative mindset with a history of working effectively in cross-functional teams to achieve shared goals.
- Deep, practical understanding of MongoDB internals, including the aggregation framework, storage engines, indexing, and replication.
- Excellent async/written communication skills with the ability to facilitate technical discussions and build consensus.
Preferred (Nice-to-Haves):
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Pulumi.
- Experience with running MongoDB in Atlas.
- Familiarity with other database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch).
- Experience with large-scale data migration projects.

Shape the future of journey management, from backend systems to smooth, scalable UI
TheyDo is the leading journey management platform, empowering enterprise teams like Cisco, Ford, and Johnson & Johnson to manage their customer journeys at scale. Our mission? Make the customer journey the most powerful business tool there is.
We're looking for a senior full-stack engineer with a backend mindset to help us re-architect how journeys are built and delivered. If you love crafting performant systems, powering delightful user experiences, and solving problems across the stack, keep reading.
What you’ll do
You’ll focus about 60–70% of your time on backend systems, while also pitching in on UI polish and frontend performance where needed. Expect hands-on impact across key areas:
- Build integrations at scale — Connect with tools like Miro, Figma, Salesforce, Snowflake, and BigQuery to expand our ecosystem and bring more value to our users.
- Power real-time collaboration — Enhance our live editing features using techniques like fractional indexing and conflict-free replicated data types (CRDTs).
- Develop AI-powered experiences — Work on features that surface insights from customer journey data, in partnership with our AI team.
- Support frontend performance — Contribute to our design system and help craft fast, reliable user experiences when backend logic is key.
- Own your work — Plan, prioritize, and ship in our async-first environment with minimal overhead.
What we’re looking for
- Deep experience with Node.js — You’ve built and scaled clean, efficient services for data-rich applications.
- Fluency in Vue.js — You’re comfortable navigating large Vue codebases and building dynamic, performant interfaces.
- Full-stack thinking, backend strength — You love working across the stack but feel most at home designing APIs, optimizing queries, and integrating backend systems.
- API-first mindset — You know your way around GraphQL and have built integrations with tools like Figma, Salesforce, and BigQuery.
- Product-focused engineering — You care deeply about the user problem, not just the code. You ask why before how.
- Clean code standards — You write modular, maintainable, well-documented code that others can build on.
- Autonomous and async-native — You’re organized, clear in your communication, and thrive in a remote team that values flexibility and ownership.
Why you shouldn’t apply
- You prefer tightly structured processes and a waterfall workflow. We're async, fast-moving, and trust-driven.
- You want daily tasks assigned to you. Here, you'll help define the work alongside product and design.
- You avoid early-stage decision-making. We need builders who thrive in ambiguity and enjoy shaping the path forward.

🧠 Learning and Development budget we encourage everyone to take ownership and invest in their growth and development, providing financial support to benefit you in your role and career.
🧘♂️Wellbeing budget - nurture your mind and body. We’ll support you in looking after you, whether it's meditation, mindfulness, or a yoga/gym membership.
👪 Paid parental leave - we'll ensure financial support and time off for you to bond with the newest little members of your family (6 months for the primary carer, and 6 weeks for the secondary carer - fully paid). We provide paid childcare leave when you need to take time out to help your little one recover.
👨💻Home office or co-working support - choose your ideal workspace with our home office or co-working budget. Whether you prefer the comfort of your home office or the collaborative atmosphere of a co-working space, we've got you covered.
